Health Data
Last updated August 9, 2026
This page exists because health data deserves a specific answer rather than a paragraph inside a general privacy policy. It describes what the Detoxible app actually does, and it is written to be checkable against the code rather than to sound reassuring.
This document is not yet reviewed by a solicitor.
The short version
If you connect Apple Health or Health Connect, the app reads your weight and your sleep and shows them to you. That data is never sent to our servers, never stored by us, never shared with anyone, and never used for advertising. It is read on your phone, drawn on your phone, and that is the end of it.
Connecting is optional. Nothing in the app requires it, and refusing costs you nothing except having to type a weight in yourself.
What we read
Exactly two things:
- Body weight — so the tracker fills in from your scales instead of you typing it.
- Sleep — the intervals your phone or watch recorded you as asleep.
That is the whole list, and it is set in the code rather than requested broadly and filtered later. If a future version reads anything else, the permission prompt will name it and this page will change.
What we do not do
- We do not write anything back. The app does not request permission to add data to Apple Health or Health Connect, so it cannot alter what is in there. This is why the iOS permission sheet shows read access only.
- We do not send health data to our servers. It is not in the sync that carries your fasting and sobriety history, it is not in any backup we hold, and there is no endpoint that would accept it. Your weight and sleep exist on your device.
- We do not read in the background. Background delivery is switched off, so the app reads only while you are looking at it.
- We never sell or share it. Not with advertisers, not with analytics, not with retreat operators, not with anyone. There is no exception in this sentence.
- We do not use it to target anything. It does not affect what you are shown, offered or charged.
What you can see, and what we can see
You can see your weight and sleep in the app. We cannot. Nobody at Detoxible can look up your health data, because it never leaves your phone — this is a property of how it is built, not a policy we are promising to follow.
Turning it off
- iPhone: Health app → Sharing → Apps → Detoxible, and turn off whatever you like.
- Android: Settings → Health Connect → App permissions → Detoxible.
Revoking access stops the reading immediately. There is nothing for us to delete afterwards, because we were never holding it.
Deleting your Detoxible account removes everything we hold. Your Apple Health and Health Connect data is not ours to delete and is untouched by it.
Sleep, and why our number may differ from your watch’s
Both platforms hand over sleep as a pile of intervals rather than a total, and those intervals overlap when more than one device recorded the same night. We merge overlaps before adding anything up, so a watch and a phone recording the same seven hours are counted as seven, not fourteen.
We count only time recorded as asleep. Time in bed awake is excluded, which is why our figure is usually shorter than the time between going to bed and getting up. It is the more honest of the two numbers.
The legal basis
Health data is special category data under UK GDPR. Where you connect Apple Health or Health Connect, the basis is your explicit consent, given through the platform’s own permission sheet and withdrawable in the same place.
We are aware this is exactly the area where a general privacy policy is not sufficient, and that the Article 9 condition relied on for health data across the wider service is a question for a solicitor rather than for us. That review has not happened yet, and we would rather say so here than imply it has.
